EVIDENCE CLASSES

Published research points are linked to a named paper. Compiled records combine credible institutional or biodiversity sources. Historical records are context, not proof of current presence. Citizen reports remain separate until reviewed.

COMPARABLE EFFORT

Counts are abundance bands, not population estimates. The most useful contribution repeats a safe station, observation duration, hour and approximate tide. “No flashes observed” is valid only when effort is recorded.

LOCATION SAFETY

The public map uses generalised localities. Exact display-tree, patrol and private-property coordinates are not published.

FLASHPRINT

The analyzer runs entirely in the browser and estimates visible brightness peaks. Auto-exposure, compression, movement and artificial lights can distort the result. It cannot identify species.

LANDSCAPE SOURCES

Planned environmental comparisons use Global Mangrove Watch and VIIRS Nighttime Lights. They are named here as source pathways, not shown as live layers until Malaysia coverage, dates, licences and tile behaviour have been validated.
